Today I started another batch of freeze-dried chicken, and it reminded me just how much I rely on it in everyday life. Out of everything I freeze dry, chicken is probably one of the most useful foods I keep stocked in the pantry.
It’s incredibly convenient, and the quality stays great. Life gets hectic, so having chicken already prepared and ready to use makes putting meals together so much easier while helping me stay stocked and organized. My favorite option is using rotisserie chickens from Sam’s Club or Costco. I simply cut them up and get them ready for the freeze dryer.
I mostly use freeze-dried chicken for:
- Soups
- Salads
- Casseroles
- Pasta dishes
- Homemade dog food and toppers
It rehydrates quickly and works perfectly for those nights when I need something fast but still want a homemade meal. I also love taking it camping because it’s lightweight, easy to store, and simple to use.
Another reason I enjoy freeze drying is that it helps reduce waste. Instead of worrying about extra chicken going bad in the refrigerator or freezer, I can preserve it and keep it shelf stable for long term storage. It gives me peace of mind knowing I have wholesome food available whenever I need it.
Even our Polly pup benefits from it because I often make her homemade dog food or food toppers for the extra protein. Chicken is her favorite and if it’s not chicken, she turns her nose up. It’s what we would consider the high value treat.
For me, freeze drying has become more than just food preservation. It’s part of creating a simpler and more intentional lifestyle; being prepared, wasting less, and keeping nourishing foods available for both my family and pets.
Starting a new batch today felt like another small step toward that kind of living, and honestly, there’s something really satisfying about it.
