There’s nothing like the smell of fall that makes me want to bring a little extra coziness into our home. The cool mornings, changing leaves, and warm autumn colors always inspire me to switch things up a bit, even when it comes to the little everyday things.
One of those little things is hand soap!
I’ve always enjoyed making my own natural home products, and homemade foaming hand soap is such a simple project. You don’t need a long list of ingredients or anything fancy to get started.
Today, I’m sharing an easy foaming hand soap using one of my favorite products, Dr. Bronner’s Baby Unscented Castile Soap, along with a fall-inspired essential oil combination for those who want to explore a scented version.
Why I Love Making My Own Foaming Hand Soap
One of my favorite things about DIY projects is knowing exactly what goes into them. I also love that I can reuse the foaming hand soap dispenser instead of buying a new one.
Add a few seasonal decorations around the sink with your soap and it feels more welcoming.
Today, I’m sharing a fall-inspired foaming hand soap featuring three lovely essential oils: Tangerine, Lavender, and Cedarwood.
It’s a combination that’s sweet, a little floral, and wonderfully woodsy. Not your traditional pumpkin spice, but definitely a scent that makes me think of autumn!
And the best part? You don’t need a long list of ingredients to get started.
Cozy Autumn Breeze Foaming Hand Soap Recipe
This recipe uses Dr. Bronner’s Baby Unscented Castile Soap and a blend of three essential oils for a cozy, fall-inspired fragrance.
Bottle size: 8-ounce foaming soap dispenser. You can even reuse old bottles.
Finished amount: Approximately 7¼ ounces, leaving space for the pump.
Ingredients
- 1½ tablespoons Dr. Bronner’s Baby Unscented Castile Soap
- ¾ cup distilled water
- 5 drops Tangerine Essential Oil
- 4 drops Lavender Essential Oil
- 3 drops Cedarwood Essential Oil
- A clean 8-ounce foaming soap dispenser
Directions
- Start with a clean foaming soap dispenser.
- Measure the Castile soap into a small mixing container.
- In a separate container, combine the Tangerine, Lavender, and Cedarwood essential oils.
- Add the essential oils to the Castile soap and swirl around to mix together.
- Once the fragrance has been properly incorporated, add the distilled water according to the mixing instructions for your chosen method.
- Transfer the mixture to your foaming soap dispenser and attach the pump.
Important: The 12 drops is our chosen fragrance blend, not a fully verified soap formulation. A suitable solubilizing method is needed before making the scented version. The diluted soap also has no separately validated preservation system, so it shouldn’t be stored for extended periods.
For an easy unscented version, simply combine the Castile soap and distilled water without adding the essential oils.
Why I Chose These Three Essential Oils
I wanted something that reminded me of fall without using the strong cinnamon and clove scents that are often found in traditional autumn blends.
Here’s what makes this combination special.
🍊 Tangerine Essential Oil
Tangerine brings a bright, sweet citrus aroma to the blend. It adds a little freshness and sweetness without overpowering the other oils.

💜 Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender adds a soft floral note that helps balance the citrus and woodsy scents. It’s one of my favorite oils to blend because it pairs so nicely with other fragrances.

🌲 Cedarwood Essential Oil
Cedarwood is what really gives this blend its cozy autumn feeling. Its warm, earthy, woodsy aroma reminds me of being outdoors on a crisp fall day.

Add a Little Fall Charm
One of my favorite things about making homemade products is being able to add a personal touch. I think this foaming soap would look beautiful in an amber glass bottle with a simple label. You could add a little greenery, a small wooden tray, or even a handmade tag to give it that cozy fall look. Sometimes it’s those little details that make everyday things feel special.
A Few Helpful Tips
- Use a dispenser specifically designed for foaming hand soap.
- Start with a thoroughly cleaned bottle.
- Remember that essential oils can irritate sensitive skin, even in rinse-off products.
- Don’t add essential oils directly to the water or diluted Castile soap without a compatible dispersing method.
- Make small batches for prompt use. Adding water can affect the soap’s preservation, and contamination isn’t always visible.
